Create and Bloom Studios came to life after years of dreaming of having my own studio; a place to create, meet clients, and connect with local creatives. I have made my studio a space where not only I could create and bloom, but other local entrepreneurs could grow their own business and skill. As a firm believer in community over competition, this studio became my way to give to fellow creatives.
The Story of Create & Bloom
For years, I dreamed of owning a photography studio where creatives could come together and flourish. It was my goal to make a space for locals to connect and just make beautiful things. For the longest time, it was only a wish. Then one night, I found the perfect location where I could build my dream studio.
I was scrolling on my phone because I couldn’t fall asleep. It was around 2:00 am when I ended up on a website that sells large commercial buildings. I’m not even sure how I got there. Now I would call it fate, because I stumbled across a GEM of a property in Midtown Sacramento. Even though the pictures of the property didn’t do it justice, something told me to go check it out. The location was amazing and I sat there and thought, “Wouldn’t that be cool?” As I was drifting off to sleep, I submitted an inquiry to view the property, wondering if my dream was about to come true.
By the morning, the property manager had contacted me and asked if I was free to come see the space. I talked to my husband and I could tell he was calculating the numbers in his head. We eventually decided that we should at least go and see the space, assuming it would be too much, but wanting to at least check it out.
As soon as we arrived, I had actual butterflies! There was a peaceful courtyard that was so appealing. The property manager arrived and took us up the stairs, talking about the property and location on the way up. I don’t think I heard a word that he said, partially because I was excited and partially because I was anxious. When we walked in the entrance, I was focused on the amazing natural light that poured into the space. There were tons of windows, creating direct and indirect sunlight—ideal for a studio! The space needed a lot of love (I’m talking blue carpet and yellow walls) to become the studio of my dreams, but I could envision it becoming something amazing. My husband could tell by the look in my eyes that this was it!
I typically feel sick to my stomach when making big purchases—I am the queen of feeling guilty about spending money—but this time I was ready to write a check with confidence, excitement, and not a doubt in my mind. So we bought a space that needed a ton of work in the middle of a global pandemic. I called the agent that same evening and got to work transforming Create and Bloom Studio!
Within just a few days, I had the keys to the studio, a huge list of projects to complete, an amazing support system, and a full heart. Over the summer, I turned a space with potential into my dream photography studio. Local creatives now visit the multipurpose space so that they can grow their skill, portfolio, and business.
The Midtown Sacramento Studio Space
The studio has 3 spaces, including a consultation space and two rooms for photo sessions. Natural light pours into the open studio spaces and gives photographers opportunities to get creative with their sessions, even learning how to shoot different lighting and angles. Whether you’re a portrait, editorial, or boudoir photographer, there are props you can use to create. There is also a space for newborn photographers with all of the props and tools needed to take beautiful newborn portraits. The consultation space gives photographers or other business owners the option to meet with clients in person, whether it is to discuss a photo session or provide a showing of their gallery. Meeting with clients in person creates a personal experience and allows creatives to show who they really are and connect with clients or even potential clients.
Create and Bloom Studio has grown into my dream photography studio! I hope that you can visit soon and create something beautiful.
