Just three hours southwest of Sacramento, you will find the quiet beach town of Pacific Grove. It’s located in Monterey County, one of California’s most beautiful counties. There is so much to do in this area and there are some incredible engagement session locations! We chose to take Taylor and Meghann’s beach engagement photos in Pacific Grove because it’s where Taylor proposed. They were so excited to take their photos in a place that has such a special meaning. In addition, are some incredible rocky beaches in Pacific Grove. It’s perfect for a romantic escape! 

California Beach Engagement Inspiration

The day of this engagement session, it was cool and overcast. The weather actually gave the images a dramatic element that turned out to be beautiful. The cloudy sky brought out the soft blues of the water and really brought the portraits to life. Since it wasn’t overly bright out, Taylor and Meghann didn’t have to squint and there weren’t any difficult shadows. The light wind blew Meghann’s hair perfectly! She wore two stunning flowy dresses for their beach engagement session that fit perfectly with the setting. 

Tips for Beach Engagement Photos

If you are planning a beach engagement session, here are a few tips from a California engagement photographer:

1. Look for smaller beaches that won’t be overcrowded! This insures that your session is intimate and undisturbed moments with your partner.
2. Pick a time of day when the sun isn’t directly overhead. Golden hour is a great option, or if you can find an overcast day, that works as well!
3. Flowy dresses look great for beach engagement photos, as well as looser-fitting, romantic-style outfits. This allows for the wind to blow and create movement throughout your session.
4. You’re probably going to get a little wet! Plan on dipping your toes in the water and being barefoot for part of your session.
