Today I’m sharing Spencer and Britt’s engagement session and, let me tell you, these two went all-in for their session! Most of us aren’t models, which means we aren’t 100% comfortable in front of the camera right away. Taking professional photos can be awkward, but Spencer and Britt came ready to shake off any uncomfortableness and just have some fun! I loved working with these two because I’m all about making your session as enjoyable as possible! I’ll never leave you hanging with a Ricky Bobby moment not knowing what to do with your hands or how to pose. Here are 5 of my top tips for making the most of your engagement session:
01) Shop for an outfit you’ll love AND feel great in!
I’m guilty (along with about a million other women) of finding what I think the perfect outfit will be, but feeling completely miserable in it. Just know—that kind of thing will show in photos. Find something that you not only love the look of, but also love how it feels on you! That confidence can’t be faked!
02) Get glammed up!
You might go back and forth about spending the money on hair and makeup for your engagement session, but let me tell you it is totally worth it! These photos are more than just images that will go on your Save the Dates—they document a special chapter of your life. Bonus tip to save time and money on your hair and makeup: Use your bridal trial for your engagement session!
03) Find a location that’s meaningful to you.
Think outside the box of your typical local parks where you always see photographers taking family photos. Brainstorm a location that means something to your relationship. It might be a favorite restaurant, where you met, or a place you like to spend time together. The possibilities are endless! (And if you need some help, I’d be happy to provide some unique recommendations!)
04) Turn the day into a date.
Instead of stressing out because you’re going to have your photos taken, turn it into a whole experience! After all, you’re getting dressed up and going to a beautiful location. Take the opportunity to hit pause on the craziness of life and wedding planning and just have some romantic fun. Plan dinner or drinks afterward to enjoy the whole night!
05) Just go with the flow!
Embrace feeling a little nervous or awkward. Laugh about it! Laughing photos are honestly my fav because they show real emotion. Lean into the moment. I promise, if you can do this, your photos will turn out better than you could have imagined!
