Becoming a parent changes everything. As a result, your rhythm, your focus, and your sense of what truly matters begin to shift. When I step into your home for an in-home newborn session, my goal is to capture your story exactly as it unfolds, filled with love, connection, and the tiny in-between moments that define the newborn chapter.
If you have never had an in-home session before, you might be curious about how it all works. Here’s what to expect from an in-home newborn session and why you can relax knowing I will guide you through every part of it.

The Beauty of Staying Home
Your home becomes the backdrop for your baby’s earliest memories. You do not need a spotless house or a perfectly styled nursery. You simply need to be present!
When I arrive, I bring a calm energy (and usually a coffee in hand) so the session feels easy and relaxed. We will photograph in the spaces that naturally reflect your family, often the nursery, your bedroom, or the living room with soft morning light. These are the places where the real magic happens.
We are not aiming for perfect. We are capturing real moments. The warmth of home, the way your baby fits perfectly in your arms, and the quiet love that fills the room.

Timing + Flow of your In Home Newborn Session
Most in-home newborn sessions happen within the first two to four weeks after birth. When babies are still sleepy and cozy, and parents are easing into their new rhythm. Typically, a session lasts about 60 to 90 minutes. This gives us plenty of time for feeding breaks, diaper changes, and baby snuggles.
There is never a rush. If your little one needs a moment, we pause. If big siblings want to show off their favorite toy, I will photograph that too. Overall, the session flows naturally with gentle direction that helps everything feel comfortable and authentic.

Deciding What to Wear
Soft, neutral tones always photograph beautifully in natural light. Think creams, blush, taupe, sage, or muted blue. Flowy dresses, cozy knits, and subtle textures keep the focus on your family’s connection.
Similarly, for your baby, a simple swaddle or onesie is all you need. Elaborate outfits are not necessary because their tiny features tell the story perfectly on their own. Additionally, before your in-home newborn session, I will send wardrobe guidance and help you plan outfits that feel cohesive with your home’s tones and textures.

Preparing Your Space
You do not have to deep clean or redecorate. Simply tidy up the rooms where we will be shooting, usually two or three spaces, and open the blinds to let in some beautiful natural light. During the session, I might move small things around, like tucking away a diaper box or straightening a blanket, so you can relax knowing every detail will feel soft and intentional.

During Your In Home Newborn Session
Expect a morning filled with snuggling, laughter, and quiet moments that unfold naturally. I will gently guide you into relaxed poses that never feel forced. Some moments will be peaceful and still, while others might include giggles from big siblings climbing onto the bed. Ultimately, these are the images you will treasure, the ones that show your family exactly as you are in this season!

After Your Newborn Session
At last, within a few weeks, you will receive an online gallery filled with softly edited, timeless images that tell your story with heart. After that, you can choose your favorite digital images and explore options like heirloom prints, albums, or wall art to preserve these memories for years to come.
